"Undisclosed Desires" came out in November 2009 as the second single from The Resistance, Muse's fifth album, and it's the moment the band traded bombast for a slinky synth-pop strut. Matt Bellamy wrote it and has called it a personal song about him and his girlfriend, and he pointed to contemporary R&B and a pinch of David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" as the influences. For once he doesn't play guitar or piano on it: Dominic Howard programmed the beats, Christopher Wolstenholme lays down slap bass, and Edoardo de Angelis adds violin.
Muse produced it with Paul Reeve helping on the vocals, and Mark "Spike" Stent mixed. It stalled at 49 in the UK but went platinum in Australia, where it became their highest-charting single.
