About 107.7 The End

107.7 The End (KNDD) launched in Seattle in 1991, just as the city's grunge scene went global, and has been the market's alternative rock station ever since. RockLists archives The End's Top 107 year-end countdowns from 1996 to 2007 along with its Top 1077 Songs of All-Time, the Original Alternative 500 and its Pearl Jam countdown.

KNDD launched in 1991 under the ownership of Noble Broadcasting, consulted by the 91X programming team of Kevin Stapleford and Michael Halloran, with Rick Lambert as its first program director. Arriving in Seattle the same year as "Nevermind" and "Ten," The End became the hometown station for the grunge era. Phil Manning took over programming in 1996, the same year Entercom acquired the station from Viacom.

At noon on December 18, 2003, the station abruptly dismissed its on-air staff and shifted to a "classic alternative" approach emphasizing early-1990s bands, punk forebears and new local acts. Competitor KRQI 96.5 adopted a similar format the next day. The End gradually returned to a current-based alternative sound in the years that followed.

The station has aired a wide variety of countdowns, including the Top 1077 Songs of All-Time in December 1999, the Original Alternative 500 in May 2004, the Top 77 Pearl Jam Songs of All-Time in 2005 and a trio of Top 107 lists (Songs of the '90s, Resurrection Songs and Songs of the Millennium) in December 2006.
