About 101X
101X (KROX-FM, 101.5 FM) is a commercial alternative rock station licensed to Buda, Texas and serving the Austin-Round Rock area, owned by Sinclair Telecable Inc. The frequency began in 1984 as country station KGID in Giddings and became southern gospel KOKE in 1990; Sinclair Telecable bought it in 1995, changed the call letters to KROX-FM and signed on "101X, Austin's New Rock Alternative" on June 8, 1995. The station leaned toward active rock in the late 1990s before returning to a broader alternative presentation tied to the local Austin music scene, and was later owned by LBJS Broadcasting (from 1997) and controlled by Emmis Communications (from 2003).
