About 97X
97X was the alternative rock format of WSUN-FM (97.1 FM), licensed to Holiday, Florida and serving the Tampa Bay area. Cox Radio launched 97X at 5 p.m. on November 3, 2000, replacing an oldies format, with Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" as the first song. In January 2013 the station relaunched with a listener-controlled format. WSUN dropped the alternative format and the 97X name on April 27, 2022, ahead of its sale to Spanish Broadcasting System; 97X continued on HD subchannels and an FM translator.
