"Medicate" was the first single from Crash Love, AFI's 2009 album, and the band made sure it was everywhere: it went up on iTunes in late August, reached radio at the start of September, and turned up as a playable track in Guitar Hero 5 and Tap Tap Revenge 3 and as downloadable content for Rock Band. On Billboard it got as high as 7 on Alternative Songs, and it made 16 on the Rock Songs tally.
Davey Havok sings lead over Jade Puget's electric guitar, Hunter Burgan's bass and Adam Carson's drums, and the band produced it with Joe McGrath before Rich Costey mixed. Paul Minor's black-and-white video plays like a Paco Rabanne or Fendi ad dusted with digital gold: during the bridge Havok kisses a blonde girl while Puget lies on the floor, bleeding gold.
