“Zero” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

"Zero" was the song Yeah Yeah Yeahs sent out first from It's Blitz!, their third album, in 2009, and it throbs and glitters like a dancefloor at 2 a.m., stacking up layer on layer until the whole thing bursts open. Karen O sounds like she's been let off the leash.

Nick Launay and Dave Sitek produced it, with Eric Biondo on trumpet and Stuart Bogie on tenor sax slipped into the mix, and that production is exactly what critics raved about: NME and Spin both crowned it the best track of 2009. The video simply follows Karen O, the band's singer, through the streets of San Francisco after dark, which is all the spectacle a song this charged needs.
