About WBER

WBER (90.5 FM) is a listener- and school-district-supported community radio station in Rochester, New York, owned and operated by Monroe BOCES #1. It began as WRHR, a student-run station of the Rush-Henrietta Central School District licensed in 1975. Monroe BOCES #1 acquired it in 1985, renamed it WBER ("BOCES Educational Radio") effective March 2, 1987 and raised its power to 2,500 watts; it serves as a training ground for students and community members. The station plays an alternative format and presents local concerts.
