Staind formed in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1995 and, after Fred Durst signed the band to his Flip Records label, became one of the biggest rock acts of the early 2000s. "It's Been Awhile" (2001) was the number one song of the year on Live 105, Q101, WHFS and WCCC, and "Outside", first recorded live with Durst, was the number one song of 2001 on 89X and K-Rock, where "It's Been Awhile" was number two.

"Right Here" (2005) topped WCCC's year-end countdown and placed high across the archive, and Staind's dominance of the 2001 countdowns makes that year's consensus one of the most one-sided in the archive.
