About WCCC The Rock

WCCC 106.9 FM, "The Rock," was Hartford's hard rock station and the early-career morning home of Howard Stern. Its Top 106 year-end countdowns from 2000 through 2007 are archived on RockLists.

WCCC-FM was a heritage rock station in Hartford, Connecticut, for more than four decades. Howard Stern hosted mornings at the station in 1979 and 1980 before moving on to Detroit, Washington and New York. In the 2000s the station programmed an active rock format under the name The Rock, with a no-repeat guarantee from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an annual spring Rock Expo.

The Top 106 year-end countdowns preserved here reflect the harder side of rock radio in the 2000s, with Godsmack, Staind, Shinedown and Tool alongside the alternative crossovers of the era. In 2014 the station was sold to the Educational Media Foundation and flipped to contemporary Christian music, ending its run as a rock station.
