Green Day

Green Day came out of the East Bay punk scene around Berkeley's 924 Gilman Street club, and Dookie (1994) made Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool the face of the pop-punk boom. "Longview" and "Basket Case" were both voted year-end number ones in 1994, and "When I Come Around" and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" followed them onto every station's playlist.

American Idiot (2004) gave the band a second peak a decade later: "American Idiot" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" topped year-end countdowns in 2004 and 2005 from Boston to San Diego. Green Day is the ninth most-charted artist on RockLists and was voted KROQ's number one artist of all time in 2005.
