"Mess Is Mine" launched Dream Your Life Away, the debut album from Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy, arriving on 9 July 2014 as its lead single. He wrote it alone, Ryan Hadlock produced it, and it's a warm, wide-eyed song with a gentle, swelling build; Joy has said the inspiration, for this one and several other songs on the record, was a girl he got to know on a tour stop in Texas. Luci Schroder directed the video.
It has had a long life on screen: it closes the soundtrack of EA Sports' FIFA 15, plays in the first episode of 13 Reasons Why and in Hart of Dixie, and turns up in the trailers for The Big Sick and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, as well as a Delta ad in 2015.
