“Tropic Morning News” by The National

"Tropic Morning News" comes from First Two Pages of Frankenstein, the ninth studio album by the National, which 4AD released on April 28, 2023. Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger wrote the music, Berninger shares the lyric credit with Carin Besser, and the band produced the album themselves at Long Pond studio in upstate New York.

It came out of a drift. After I Am Easy to Find and a pandemic that wiped out their touring, the members scattered: Berninger made the solo album Serpentine Prison, Bryce Dessner wrote film scores and classical pieces from France, Aaron Dessner produced two Taylor Swift albums and made a Big Red Machine record with Justin Vernon, and Bryan and Scott Devendorf helped other artists. The album stalled at first, too, while Berninger sat in a dark stretch where neither words nor melodies would come.
