“Rylan” by The National

"Rylan" turns up on I Am Easy to Find, the National's eighth studio album, released on 4AD in May 2019, with Aaron Dessner writing the music and Matt Berninger the words. Like much of that record it opens the door to other voices: Kate Stables is the singer credited here, one of the women, Lisa Hannigan, Sharon Van Etten and Gail Ann Dorsey among them, who run all through the album.

Berninger, Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Mike Mills share the production credit, Mills being the director whose short film grew up alongside the album without ever becoming its soundtrack. Most of the record was cut at Long Pond in New York's Hudson Valley, and Peter Katis mixed the song, with extra mixing from Jonathan Low.
