"Fever" was the Black Keys' first taste of Turn Blue, their eighth album, landing in March 2014, and it dates back to January 2013 at Key Club in Benton Harbor, Michigan, in the very first sessions for the record. Dan Auerbach had a melody rattling around his head; he and Patrick Carney worked out the chords and cut it fast, just the two of them, keeping the bass and drums lean and danceable with Motown in mind. Danger Mouse, who produced alongside the band, helped them shape the coda in later sessions, and Brian Burton shares the writing credit with the duo.

What came out is a twitchy, hip-shaking stomp, with Alfreda McCrary Lee's backing vocals shadowing the hook and Tchad Blake mixing it hot. It picked up Grammy nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.
