sombr wrote and produced "back to friends" entirely on his own, and it's the song that broke him: the lead single from his debut album I Barely Know Her, out through Warner Records and his own SMB imprint. It plays teenage love as full-blown melodrama, and he handles guitar, bass, drums, keys and piano himself, with Benny Bock, Kane Ritchotte and Mason Stoops filling in and Rich Costey on the mix.
TikTok lit the fuse, with "Undressed" riding the same wave, and the song climbed to number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on it for 52 straight weeks. He took it to Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, where the video won Best Alternative Video, the first award of his career.
