“Kisses” by Slowdive

Neil Halstead wrote "Kisses", produced it and handed the mix to Shawn Everett, and it arrived with Everything Is Alive, Slowdive's fifth album, on Dead Oceans on 1 September 2023. It was the English band's first record in six years and only their second since reforming, following the self-titled album of 2017.

Getting there took a while. Sessions booked for April 2020 fell to the pandemic, so the band didn't get into a studio until that September, and in between, Rachel Goswell lost her mother and Simon Scott lost his father. Halstead, who wrote every song on the album, heard the music as an escape from that darkness; he expected a dark record, he said, but once the band got together some of the gloom lifted and the tunes came out lighter. Critics loved the result.
