"Out of the Black" is where Royal Blood began: the English hard rock duo's first single, put out in November 2013 on their independent label, Black Mammoth. Warner Bros. signed the pair soon after and gave the song a second run in 2014, first as the title track of their debut EP and then on their self-titled first album. Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher, the band's two members, wrote it together, and Tom Dalgety recorded it, mixed it and co-produced it with them.
It's a bruiser, all hard-rock swagger, and it kept finding new places to throw its weight around: a 2015 video timed to its spot on the soundtrack of the film Who Am I, and a turn as the official theme of the wrestling event WWE Roadblock in 2016.
