"Drunk Girls" was the second single from This Is Happening, LCD Soundsystem's third album, and it went out on May 3, 2010, with James Murphy cheerfully owning up that it was dumb, and that dumb, short songs are what he likes. Built on a call-and-response in the mold of the Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat", it's a sugar rush, and Rolling Stone's Kevin O'Donnell gave it four stars, rating it the tightest and most approachable thing Murphy had done.
Murphy produced it and plays most of it, from bass, drums and guitar to Wurlitzer and handclaps, with Gavilán Rayna Russom on synth and Morgan Wiley on piano; David Sardy mixed. In the video, co-directed by Murphy and Spike Jonze, Murphy, Nancy Whang and Pat Mahoney try to get through the song while people in panda suits rough them up.
