"Walk on Water" launched America, the fifth Thirty Seconds to Mars album, arriving as its lead single on August 22, 2017, the same day it hit radio and a lyric video went up on YouTube. It opened a new chapter on the business side too: after rocky years with Virgin, it was the band's first release through Interscope.
Singer Jared Leto produced it and wrote it with drummer Shannon Leto, with Stevie Aiello, Arkadi Zaslavski and Mike Elizondo among those lending a hand on the production. They recorded it in Los Angeles, and Leto told NME it was a long, slow song to get finished. What came out is electronic rock on a widescreen scale, built to fill every inch of the room.
