"Everything Now" was the title track and first single from Arcade Fire's fifth album, out in 2017, and it sounds like the Canadian band wandered onto a disco floor and decided to stay. They produced it with Thomas Bangalter and Steve Mackey, with Bangalter also on synthesizer, and it's crammed with color: Patrick Bebey's flute, a sample of Francis Bebey's "The Coffee Cola Song", a string section featuring Owen Pallett and Sarah Neufeld, and the Harmonistic Praise Crusade choir swelling behind it all.
The hook has a crowd-sourced origin: at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans in 2016, the band recorded the festival audience singing a melody from the unfinished record. The song first surfaced as a limited orange 12-inch sold at the merch stand at Barcelona's Primavera Sound on May 31, and it became the band's first number one on any Billboard chart.
