Singer Jared Leto wrote and produced "Do or Die" by himself for Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams, the fourth Thirty Seconds to Mars album, released in 2013. It's electronic rock with arena-sized shoulders, a song about standing up and going after your dreams that Leto shades with a streak of irony.
Europe heard it first, when it went to radio there in July 2013; America got it as a promotional single in March 2014, the same month Afrojack's remix came out, which the Dutch producer later added to the deluxe edition of his debut album, Forget the World. Critics praised its range and its euphoric, pared-down feel. Leto directed the video too, cutting live footage of the band with stories from fans he interviewed himself, and the song stayed in the sets of the Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams Tour and the Carnivores Tour.
