About WRCX Rock 103.5
WRCX, Rock 103.5, was Chicago's hard rock station in the mid-1990s. Its Top 103 Songs of 1997 is archived on RockLists.
WRCX signed on as Rock 103.5 in 1993, giving Chicago a hard rock alternative to the modern rock of Q101 and the classic rock of the Loop. With a playlist built around Metallica, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Tool, the station was a home for the heavier side of the era. Its program director Dave Richards later moved across town to Q101.
The station was sold and changed formats in 1998, and the 103.5 frequency has since been a Top 40 outlet. The Top 103 Songs of 1997 countdown is its only surviving year-end list.
