"Sunset" comes from Coexist, the second album from the xx, the English indie pop band, released by Young Turks in September 2012. Romy Madley Croft on guitar and Oliver Sim on bass share the vocals and wrote the words together, and they split the music credit with Jamie xx, who plays the electronics, produced and engineered the track, and mixed it with Rodaidh McDonald.
The band made Coexist between November 2011 and May 2012, after a break from touring their 2009 debut, having started out writing songs on their own. Across the album the lyrics drew on personal experience to pick at a failing romance, while the music soaked up the electronic dance scene that had flourished while they were out on the road. The album is minimalist to the bone, all open space, loose shapes and held-back tension.
