“Psychosocial” by Slipknot

Slipknot sent "Psychosocial" to radio at the end of June 2008 as the second taste of their fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, and it plays like a pressure cooker with the lid bolted down. Joey Jordison called it another song he built with bassist Paul Gray, one he had doubts about until the whole band got its hands on it and it clicked; Shawn Crahan heard social anxiety running through it.

Dave Fortman produced it with the band and Colin Richardson mixed it, and the result is a churning, lockstep riff that won't let go, hammering drums and a chorus built for arenas. Its live debut came on July 9, 2008, at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington; it earned a Kerrang! Award nomination for Best Single, and Jordison later grumbled that plenty of bands had ripped it off.
