"Undead" opens Hollywood Undead's debut full-length, Swan Songs, and went out as its first single on August 26, 2008, a week ahead of the album. Deuce, J-Dog, Johnny 3 Tears and Charlie Scene wrote it, Deuce produced it with Danny Lohner, Josh Freese played drums and Ben Grosse mixed, and the result is a chest-thumping rap-rock stomp built for arenas. It reached number ten on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Arenas took it at its word. It became a go-to soundtrack for people hitting things: a G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra trailer during Super Bowl XLIII, the games UFC 2009 Undisputed and Madden NFL 09, fighter Josh Neer's entrance at UFC 101, the Knicks' 2009–2010 intro video, and NBC's WrestleMania XXV coverage of the Undertaker against Shawn Michaels.
