About KWOD

KWOD was the call sign carried on 106.5 FM in Sacramento, California from 1977 to 2009 (the frequency's current occupant is KUDL, "106.5 The End"). Owned by Royce International Broadcasting and later Entercom, KWOD shifted from Top 40 to a Top 40/modern rock hybrid in May 1991 and became a full-fledged alternative rock station by June 1993, giving early airplay to acts such as Cake, Deftones, Oleander and Papa Roach and reaching its ratings peak with a 5.2 (12+) share in summer 1995, among the highest-rated alternative stations in the U.S. at the time. The station signed off as KWOD on May 22, 2009, playing Green Day's "21 Guns" and Cake's "Short Skirt/Long Jacket"; the call letters briefly returned in 2014 before the frequency became KUDL.
