“Lonesome Drifter” by Charley Crockett

Charley Crockett wrote the title track of Lonesome Drifter on his own, and its single release came on January 31, 2025, six weeks ahead of the album, which arrived on March 14 through Lone Star Rider under Island Records. It was his 14th studio album and his first on a major label, and it opened his Sagebrush Trilogy; he told Billboard he already had the second record finished and the third sketched out.

Crockett produced the album with Shooter Jennings, cutting twelve songs in ten days at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, with the work of Bill Withers as a touchstone. The Los Angeles Times heard soulful, lightly psychedelic country-blues, while the Dallas Times figured he hadn't changed a bit, still working the plain old-school Texas country-blues he'd been sharpening since busking in Deep Ellum.
