"So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" comes from Pang, the 2019 album that was Caroline Polachek's first under her own name, and it's a synth-pop confection with a bruise in the middle. She wrote it with Daniel Nigro and Teddy Geiger, produced it with Nigro, and Geoff Swan mixed it. Consequence of Sound heard more spring in its step than in "Parachute" or "Ocean of Tears".
It didn't chart at first; the fuse burned slow until early 2022, when the song went viral on TikTok and became a sleeper hit. Along the way it picked up an A. G. Cook remix, the lead single from her 2021 set Standing at the Gate: Remix Collection, a Christmas rework called "So Cold You're Hurting My Feelings", and her first solo live TV spot, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January 2020.
