Björk sent Volta into the world behind "Earth Intruders", the lead single she wrote and produced with Timbaland, with Danja co-producing and sharing the writing credit, and it hit digital stores in April 2007. The cast is a gloriously odd collision: Timbaland and Danja on keyboards and effects, Konono Nº1 on mbira, Chris Corsano on drums, Damian Taylor engineering and piling on extra effects, and the Icelandic singer's voice riding over all of it.
The rollout was pure internet-age teasing: a distorted snippet leaked onto YouTube to stoke the album's viral campaign, then a 15-second clip went up on Rhino's ringtone site, where buyers got a different stretch of the song, with different lyrics, from the preview. Download sales then carried it higher on the American charts than any of her singles before, and it remains her best US showing.
