Billie Eilish dropped "My Future" on July 30, 2020, her brother Finneas O'Connell's birthday and a full year before Happier Than Ever, the second album it ended up leading off. The two wrote it together, and Finneas produced and recorded it and played the synths, bass, Wurlitzer and electric guitar himself, with Rob Kinelski handling the mix.
It's a hushed, downtempo jazz-pop ballad with bossa nova, funk and soul folded in, and instead of pining over somebody, it picks herself: a song about self-love and holding on to her own power. It gave her a third US top-10 hit, and Andrew Onorato's animated video, made with Studio Chop, has her walking away from a relationship to think about what comes next.
