“Heavy Heart” by Bartees Strange

"Heavy Heart" opened the campaign for Farm to Table, Bartees Strange's second album: it came out on March 1, 2022 as the lead single and his first release for 4AD, ahead of the album itself on June 17. The words are credited to Bartees Cox, who shares the music credit with Chris Connors and Conor Murphy, and the arrangement reaches well past the usual indie-rock toolkit: Murphy on trumpet, Don Godwin on piano, tuba and sousaphone, Daniel Kleederman on electric and slide guitar and bass, Jordyn Blakely on drums and percussion, and Eliza Vera on backing vocals.

The album was made during the pandemic, when he could not play live, and he started recording it the day before his debut full-length, Live Forever, came out. Its title traces his road from rural Oklahoma farms to a seat at the music industry's table.
