About 101 WRIF
WRIF is an active rock station on 101.1 FM licensed to Detroit, Michigan, and owned by Beasley Media Group. The station started in 1948 as WXYZ-FM, largely simulcasting its AM sister, and got the WRIF call letters in February 1971 because of an FCC clerical mix-up. With consultant Lee Abrams it became one of the early album-oriented rock stations, and Greater Media bought it in 1994. Radio & Records named it the 2007 active rock station of the year among top-25 markets.
