About The Bear
The Bear (CKQB-FM 106.9) was Ottawa's rock station from the mid-1990s until 2013, when it was rebranded with a pop format. Its Top 107 year-end countdowns for 2003, 2004 and 2006 are archived on RockLists.
CKQB-FM, branded as 106.9 The Bear and "Ottawa's Best Rock," broadcast an album-oriented and modern rock mix from studios on Merivale Road. Owned by Standard Broadcasting during the years covered here, the station passed to Astral Media in 2007 and then to Corus Entertainment in 2013.
The Bear's year-end Top 107 countdowns leaned toward mainstream and Canadian rock, with acts such as Nickelback, Three Days Grace and Billy Talent alongside the alternative hits of the day. Corus retired the Bear brand in October 2013 and relaunched the frequency as Jump 106.9.
