About 99X

99X began on 99.7 FM in Atlanta on October 26, 1992, when Susquehanna turned Top 40 station WAPW into an alternative rock outlet and soon renamed it WNNX. Cumulus Media bought the station in 2006 and in January 2008 moved 99X off the main 99.7 signal to an HD2 subchannel and the web, handing the frequency to Top 40 Q100. Cumulus brought 99X back as an alternative station on 100.5 FM (the current WNNX, licensed to College Park) in December 2022.
