"Evicted" was one of the two singles Wilco sent out ahead of Cousin, their thirteenth studio album, which dBpm Records released in September 2023. Jeff Tweedy wrote it alone, and it landed on a record made in an unusual way for the band: Cate Le Bon produced, the first time they had handed the controls to an outsider since Wilco (The Album) in 2009.
Tweedy asked her after the two met at a gig, and she steered the band away from playing live in the room, building the album up one instrument at a time from demos he had made in 2019.
