"Bad Decisions" sits on Gameshow, the third Two Door Cinema Club album, which Parlophone released on October 14, 2016. The Northern Irish band went to Los Angeles to make it with Jacknife Lee, who produced this track and recorded it alongside Matt Bishop, and Alan Moulder handled the mix. The songwriting credit is split four ways, between Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, Kevin Baird and Garret Lee.
Trimble pitched the whole record as a swerve away from the pop sounds of the moment, naming Prince and Bowie as his two biggest influences: artists who kept one foot in pop and the other somewhere much stranger.
