"It's So Hard To Hold On" comes from Alpenglow, the album Trampled by Turtles released in October 2022, and it's credited to all six of them: Erik Berry, Dave Carroll, Eamonn McLain, Tim Saxhaug, Dave Simonett and Ryan Young, words and music alike. The outside hand on this one is Jeff Tweedy, who produced it and added acoustic guitar himself, with Tom Schick engineering and mixing and Mark Greenberg assisting. The result is an aching, unhurried tune that treats its title as an honest confession, and it has held a place on the countdowns since 2022.
