"Bluetonic" was the Bluetones' calling card, the single that opened the account for their debut album Expecting to Fly, put out on Paradox Records in October 1995. Mark Morriss did most of the writing, taking his cue from an Adrian Mitchell poem, and the song had already lived another life as "No. 11", a demo that surfaced on Fierce Panda's Return To Splendour compilation in 1994.
Hugh Jones produced and mixed it, and it's Britpop with a lazy, knowing grin: Adam Devlin's acoustic and 12-string guitars chime, Scott Morriss adds bass and vocals behind Mark's lead, and Eds Chesters handles drums and percussion. It reached 19 on the UK chart, Dom and Nic shot the video, and the song later found a second home on the soundtrack to the 1997 film Shooting Fish.
