“Landmines” by Sum 41

"Landmines" was the lead single from Heaven :x: Hell, the eighth and final studio album from Canadian pop-punks Sum 41, and it began as something close to a favor for other people. Deryck Whibley had been asked to write songs for other artists, and this was one of the first to come out of that process; he liked it enough to keep it for his own band.

It's a pop-punk sprint that looks straight back to the band's early days. Whibley wrote it, sings lead and co-produced it with Mike Green, engineering and mixing too; Dave Baksh and Tom Thacker handle the electric guitars, Jason McCaslin plays bass and Frank Zummo drums. Critics loved the hooks even as a few grumbled about the formula, and on the US Alternative Airplay chart it set a record for the longest wait between two songs from one act.
