"Evil's My Friend" came out ahead of ...Honor Is All We Know, Rancid's eighth album, which landed on October 27, 2014, their first since Let the Dominoes Fall in 2009. The record had been a long time coming: work began in 2011, a 2012 release came and went while the band toured, wrote and chased side projects, and three years passed before it was finished.
The song is a three-voice affair, with Tim Armstrong (credited as Tim Timebomb), Lars Frederiksen and Matt Freeman all singing; Armstrong and Frederiksen play guitar, Freeman bass and Branden Steineckert drums. The three singers wrote it together, Brett Gurewitz produced, and Armstrong mixed it with Kevin Bivona. It's punk rock with the old gang feel intact.
