“The Line” by Phish

"The Line" turns up on Fuego, Phish's thirteenth studio album and their first in five years, which the band issued through its own JEMP Records on June 24, 2014. Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman share the writing credit, which fits how most of Fuego came together: all four writing as a unit at the Barn in Vermont, often in a stream-of-consciousness rush.

The recording moved to Nashville in late 2013 with Bob Ezrin producing, a man whose résumé runs through Pink Floyd, Lou Reed and Peter Gabriel. Justin Cortelyou recorded the track and mixed it with Ezrin and Jarod Snowden. Fans got an early taste of the album, too: eight of its songs made up the second set of the band's 2013 Halloween show in Atlantic City, a playful twist on their tradition of musical costumes.
