"Say Amen (Saturday Night)" kicked off Pray for the Wicked, the sixth Panic! at the Disco album, in 2018, by which point the name really stood for Brendon Urie's solo project. Urie plays drums, piano and bass himself and sings lead, and producers Jake Sinclair and Imad Royal dress him up like the star of a Saturday-night revue: Rob Mathes arranged a full section of violins, violas and cellos, with trumpets and saxophones blaring alongside.
It's pop rock with hip-hop and electronic blood in it, a whirl of synth-strings and chopped, pitch-shifted vocal samples, and Urie saves the big move for the close, a leap to that famous high B5. Eight writers share the credit, Sam Hollander and Lauren Pritchard among them. It became the act's first number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart in June 2018, and Daniel "Cloud" Campos directed the video.
