"People Got A Lotta Nerve" comes from Middle Cyclone, the fifth studio album Neko Case put out on ANTI- in 2009, her first solo record in three years. Case wrote the words herself and the music with Paul Rigby, so it's one of the album's originals rather than one of the covers (Sparks and Harry Nilsson each get one).
It belongs to a record Case admitted was a long time coming, one whose lyrics keep circling tornadoes and the wider natural world, and her upbringing's pull toward animals and wild places at the expense of people, even as she comes around to needing love. The guest list runs deep, from M. Ward and Garth Hudson to members of the New Pornographers, Los Lobos and Calexico, and reviewers praised her voice as strong, clear and emotionally wide-ranging.
