"Thought Contagion" was the second single from Simulation Theory, Muse's eighth studio album, and it arrived in February 2018. Matt Bellamy wrote it late in 2017, starting from a bass line and a lead melody he first played on a theremin, then realized the tune would make a big anthemic vocal instead: he and Christopher Wolstenholme stacked about ten takes of it to sound like a whole crowd singing along.
It's electronic rock with the band's usual flash and theatrics, Bellamy on guitar and keys, Wolstenholme on bass and Dominic Howard on drums. Rich Costey produced with the band and Adam Hawkins engineered and mixed. It went to the top of the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart.
