"The Rest of Me" was one of three singles Michael Kiwanuka put out ahead of Small Changes, his fourth album, released by Polydor and Interscope in November 2024. It's another chapter in his partnership with Danger Mouse and Inflo, who produced it, just as they had produced his two projects before it.
Inflo is all over the track, playing drums, bass, piano, Rhodes, keyboards and synths and singing backup with Stevvi Alexander and Sharlotte Gibson, while Kiwanuka adds electric guitar and bass under his own voice. Then there are the strings: a full section of violins, violas, cellos and double basses that gives the song its slow-blooming, widescreen ache. Kiwanuka wrote it with Inflo and Brian Burton, and Richard Woodcraft mixed it.
