"Disease" was the first single from More Than You Think You Are, Matchbox Twenty's third album, landing on Atlantic on September 30, 2002, and it comes with a better origin story than most. Rob Thomas originally brought it, along with "Visions of Paradise", to Mick Jagger while the Rolling Stones frontman was producing his solo album Goddess in the Doorway, and the two share the writing credit. Jagger handed "Disease" back: it sounded like Thomas, he said, so it was Thomas's song.
Matt Serletic produced it, all pop-rock strut, and it made 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. Phil Harder's video sends a roller skater gliding across New York past the band on moving billboards, then drops the band into an outdoor roller rink under a disco ball, where Thomas slides off the front on all fours, down among the dancers.
