"Hard Working Man" comes off Young Blood, the second solo studio album from Marcus King, which Easy Eye Sound and American Recordings released on August 26, 2022. King wrote it with Dan Auerbach and Angelo Petraglia, and Auerbach produced it, as he did the whole album, cut at Easy Eye Sound Studios in Nashville.
It's a guitar pileup: King on electric and acoustic, Auerbach and Andy Gabbard on electric, with Auerbach adding mellotron, Nick Movshon on bass and Chris St. Hilaire on drums and percussion, while Auerbach and Gabbard back King's lead vocal. It climbed to number 25 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay chart. The album's originals followed a bad 2021 breakup, but AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine heard a record fueled less by heartache than by the thrill of cranking the amp and singing as loud as the guitar.
