“David” by Lorde

"David" is a track from Virgin, Lorde's fourth studio album, released in June 2025, and it was made inside the same tight circle as the rest of the record: Lorde wrote and produced it with Jim-E Stack, who also engineered and plays keyboards, synthesizer and Wurlitzer electric piano. The name that jumps off the credits is Justin Vernon, on bass and electric guitar, while Lorde sings and even adds wind chime. Mark "Spike" Stent mixed it.

Virgin swung her back to electronics after the indie-folk turn of 2021's Solar Power, a record of pulsing synths, breakbeats and distorted guitars that critics heard as nearly industrial, and she drew it from a breakup, a move to New York City and a fight with an eating disorder. It became her first album to top the UK chart.
