"I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" turns up on Together at Last, Jeff Tweedy's first solo album, which dBpm Records released on June 23, 2017. Tweedy wrote it alone, words and music, and here he takes it back into his own hands in the stripped-down, acoustic spirit the whole project was built around.
The record was cut at the Loft in Chicago in January 2016, with Tweedy producing alongside Tom Schick, and it was billed as the opening chapter of Loft Acoustic Sessions, a planned series in which he circles back through songs from the Wilco catalog and from his side projects Golden Smog and Loose Fur.
