"Hope" was the second single from Jack Johnson's Sleep Through the Static, sent out as a digital download in May 2008, and it's classic Johnson: an easygoing acoustic tune that sounds like it was written with bare feet in the sand. He co-wrote it with Zach Rogue, JP Plunier produced, and Robert Carranza engineered and mixed.
It got two videos. The first, out that May, simply catches Johnson and his band playing it in the studio. The second, directed by Stephen Hopkins and shown in December 2008, was shot on the Sleep Through the Static tour: Johnson walks on stage, the crowd sways along as the song unfolds, and footage from his earlier life as a devoted surfer drifts in between.
